Hi, my name is Geoff*. Nice to meet you!
I’m in my mid-to-late thirties now. Previously divorced (and now engaged to a wonderful woman!), with two kids. Before it looked like I had it all on paper. Two houses, two kids, two cars… I made great money. I wore nice clothes. I had a home in the city I was renting out. I had a house in the suburbs with a huge yard and a pool…
…I was also horribly in debt. I had sold off my stocks, 401k, and everything else I had to keep afloat, and even then I couldn’t keep my head above water.
Fast forward about 2 years – recently divorced, starting over from scratch. There were plans in the works through the divorce agreement to sell off the houses, and pay off the debt, so I knew there was an end in sight for that… but here I was, starting a new life, with virtually nothing in the bank, and living paycheck to paycheck.
It was time to start Saving for Me. I did not want to work until I was dead. I want to travel. I want to give my kids a good life. I want to retire at a respectable age with my soon-to-be wife, and travel some more, and live well.
This blog is a story of what I have done so far, and continue to do to build up some wealth, a nest egg… so hopefully it can help someone else.
I also do some other stuff… if you’re interested…
- musical nature – I am an electronic/ambient musician, this is my ambient project in experimental sound.
- JustYourAverageHiker – a poorly maintained blog on camping, hiking, and backpacking.
- Cook Yeah! – a blog I am starting on my new-ish found love of cooking.
- SharePoint Yankee – also poorly maintained, this is my professional life-related blog.
